A haven of peace immersed in the tranquil and ascetic Vallata dello Stilaro stands a 114 meters high waterfall formed by the waters of the Stilaro river. It is among the highest waterfall in Italy. A small oasis of relaxation in Bivongi, the village of longevity, where its habitants are amongst the oldest in the world.
The town of Squillace, in the province of Catanzaro, boasts a centuries-old tradition linked to the processing of clay that has led to the present day artifacts and techniques of high artistic value. The great artistic ferment of the past lives until present day in the great will of the young craftsmen, gathered in a consortium called "Le Ceramiche di Squillace".
The Abbey was the first Carthusian convent in Italy: it stands near the town of the same name in the province of Vibo Valentia. It was founded by Bruno of Cologne in 1090, thousands of monks have lived in this place in the strict monastic rule of the cloister and, even today, it is immersed in an aura of unusual peace and mysticism. Not being able to access the Charterhouse, the Museum was established in order to introduce- in a guided tour- the history of San Bruno: his life and his works, but also the life and daily life of the monks.
On the coast of the Saracens, there is a seaside village famous for its Aragonese Castle, situated in the middle of the sea, separated from the mainland by a strip of sand in a panoramic position overlooking the bay.
The park, a protected natural area, is crossed by two long mountain ranges, by large forests and by waterways with high waterfalls. The geography of the territory helps preserve the natural ecosystem; thanks to the presence of several mountains -opposing each other, carved by steep precipices, thus maintaining an optimal state.
The park tells the story of Skylletion, the city of Magna Grecia, which became a prosperous Roman colony-Scolacium. It preserves the architectural remains testifying a Roman occupation since the Palaeolithic era. The site is immersed in a centuries-old olive grove which contributes to the green lung of the province of Catanzaro.
The municipality of Torre di Ruggiero is known worldwide for the sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna delle Grazie. The original church from the medieval period was completely destroyed following the earthquake in 1783, a period in which a statuette of the Madonna was lost. A statuette is worshipped, and where numerous apparitions and miracles were reported. Today it is one of the most important centres of worship in Calabria.
In the splendid Costa degli Dei, there is a precious pearl famous all over the world: Tropea. It stands on a promontory between the Golfi di Gioia and S. Eufemia. The white beaches below the cliff of Tropea are contrast in a magical way with the crystal-clear sea.
The three tanks dug in the rock were created by Cassiodoro in Copanello for the breeding of fish caught in the sea. A particular white granite cliff that slopes gently towards the sea, today it is a renowned place for swimming.
This wonderful village still preserves intact the medieval urban layout that gives appearance of a place suspended in time: ancient access doors, narrow and concentric alleys, houses built one behind the other, cellars now recovered as taverns and several churches.
